“We leveraged our expertise building the Marvel’s Spider-Man franchise to create a differentiated action game experience for Marvel’s Wolverine,” Sony stated. “Users have praised the new title for its highly immersive action, high-quality production, and richly layered storytelling.”
Sony acknowledged a decline in PS5 sales, a trend expected at this point in the console’s lifecycle. Nevertheless, the company assured that the PlayStation platform is expanding steadily. Looking forward, Sony plans to enhance user engagement and strengthen monetization through new game releases and service expansions. Preparations are also underway for the next generation of hardware, possibly including a PS6 and a handheld device.
The company reported a 7% increase in monthly active users on the PlayStation platform, reaching a record 127 million accounts in September. This growth suggests a steady improvement in user engagement. Despite raising the PS5’s price due to memory shortages linked to the AI industry boom, Sony minimized the impact on its financial performance. Adjustments in promotions and pricing, along with cost reductions, have maintained hardware profitability.
“With regard to PlayStation (PS5) hardware, we have been able to offset the rise in memory prices through adjustments to promotions and pricing,” Sony explained. “We expect hardware profitability for the current fiscal year to remain on par with the previous fiscal year.”
Sony also confirmed that it has secured the necessary memory supplies in collaboration with various suppliers to meet its future hardware sales targets.
