“Legit first game on and people were being just like this, vultures, and taking all loot from Arc before you could even get anything from it,” lamented one player.

Players have also reported incidents where griefers camp outside locked loot rooms, waiting for someone with a key to arrive. This forces the keyholder into a dilemma: open the loot and share it or leave and hope for better teammates in another match. In PvE, it becomes a race to grab loot first, as opposed to the confrontational nature of PvP.

To make matters worse, some players use lure grenades to draw enemy robots into extraction points, creating a high-risk scenario for those trying to escape. This behavior goes unpunished, leading many to question whether the PvE mode should continue in its current form.

“This is what PvP guys warned you about,” noted a user, highlighting the skepticism some players have about the viability of a PvE mode in Arc Raiders.

The introduction of PvE mode followed a major update to Arc Raiders, which included new features like grappling hooks and a new map. While this update initially brought a surge of players back to the game, the griefing issues in PvE have overshadowed its success.

This isn’t the first time Arc Raiders has faced issues with disruptive player behavior. Shortly after its launch, the game saw a wave of viral incidents involving players targeting newcomers and casual gamers, sparking debates about acceptable PvP conduct.

As the PvE mode is still experimental, developers at Embark have the opportunity to address these issues. The situation highlights the challenges of balancing new modes in games, particularly when they have established, dedicated player bases. Meanwhile, other developers, like those behind Marathon, are also exploring PvE options, acknowledging the niche appeal of extraction shooters.
