“They didn’t call me, so it’s their fault they’re gonna lose.”
Renner first portrayed Clint Barton, also known as Hawkeye, in 2011’s Thor and quickly became a beloved figure among MCU enthusiasts. He graduated from a cameo role to a central character in films such as The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Captain America: Civil War. In 2021, he starred in the Disney+ series Hawkeye, further cementing his status as a fan favorite. However, Hawkeye has not always been present in major battles, notably missing from 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, where the heroes faced a significant defeat.
Renner did return for Avengers: Endgame, contributing to the eventual victory over Thanos. This film was recently re-released in theaters as the “Encore” edition, which Renner enthusiastically planned to watch with his daughter. “They’re releasing the Encore of Endgame, I think next week or something, right?” he said. “I’m actually excited to see that. I’m going to take my daughter to see it.”

As Avengers: Doomsday is set to premiere on December 18, 2026, Renner’s future involvement in the MCU remains uncertain. While he has expressed interest in reprising his role in a potential second season of Hawkeye, no immediate plans seem to be in motion. Fans are left to wonder if Renner will don his superhero suit again for the anticipated Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.
