Dead by Daylight Devs Apologize After TheBurntPeanut Stirs Controversy

“This is why I’m continuing to step further away from Dead by Daylight,” expressed a disillusioned fan. “This is embarrassing, especially since there are still AMAZING creators who you haven’t approved into your program yet.”

The uproar intensified when screenshots allegedly showing Behaviour’s supportive comments towards TheBurntPeanut circulated online. These messages included the phrase, “WE CAN TAKE THE HEAT! THEY ARE YOURS TO KEEP!” This response only fueled the community’s anger, leading to further uninstalls and accusations that Behaviour was aligning with a toxic audience.

Behaviour Interactive eventually issued an apology via their @DbDPulse account, acknowledging that the decision to collaborate with TheBurntPeanut was made without proper approval and that the associated comments did not reflect the game’s core values. They promised to review internal processes to prevent similar incidents. However, many fans criticized the apology for being insufficient and questioned why it was shared on a lesser-known account rather than the official Dead by Daylight account.

“You spent 10 years building a progressive community. Who do you think is buying all those Feng & Sable cosmetics?” questioned a player, highlighting the disconnect between Behaviour’s actions and their community’s expectations.

As this situation unfolds, Behaviour Interactive has asked fans to refrain from engaging in harmful discourse and to stop threatening their employees. The controversy has cast a shadow over Dead by Daylight’s 10th anniversary, a year that has also seen other challenges, such as the removal of the Child’s Play character Chucky from the game.

While Dead by Daylight continues to be a popular title, recent events have highlighted the delicate balance between engaging new audiences and maintaining the trust of a long-standing community. The outcome of this incident remains uncertain, but it serves as a stark reminder of the potential pitfalls when aligning with controversial figures.
