“FSR 4.1’s expansion to the Xbox Series X is a major milestone in AMD’s mission to enhance gaming visuals across a broader range of devices.”
In parallel, AMD and Sony recently adapted a similar approach with PSSR 2, creating a streamlined version called QSSR for the base PS5, which significantly improved upscaling over the previous FSR 2 solution. This advancement suggests that the Xbox Series X could experience a comparable boost in visual performance once FSR 4.1 is deployed.
This update is particularly timely as the gaming community anticipates the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is expected to challenge the capabilities of current-generation consoles. Although a specific release date for FSR 4.1 on Xbox remains unspecified, AMD assures that it will arrive “soon,” potentially in time to enhance the performance and image quality of Rockstar’s upcoming title.
“Even if FSR 4.1 misses the GTA 6 launch, AMD and Xbox’s ongoing collaboration promises continuous improvements in upscaling technology for future console releases.”
Looking ahead, Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet confirmed that AMD’s forthcoming FSR iteration, dubbed ‘Diamond,’ will be integrated into Project Helix. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma revealed that Helix will encompass a “family of devices,” suggesting that AMD’s advanced upscaling could extend across various Xbox platforms, regardless of their individual processing power.
