Switch 2 Sales Fall but Nintendo Is Sticking to Its Hardware Forecast

Nintendo’s only real blockbuster this fiscal year is the Ocarina Of Time remake. It’s not enough to make investors happy, especially after the device is now as expensive as it is.

Despite investor apprehension, Nintendo shares rose by 8.13% following the Ocarina of Time remake launch and the release of the company’s latest financial results. During the first half of the current financial year, Nintendo sold 6.49 million Switch 2 units, compared to 10.36 million units in the same timeframe the previous year. The company is banking on future releases to maintain momentum, with anticipated titles like a new Super Mario game and Pokémon Winds & Pokémon Waves slated for 2027.

In terms of game sales, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream led with 8.81 million units sold, followed by Rhythm Heaven Groove with 2.89 million units and Splatoon Raiders with 2.42 million units. Mario Kart World continued to perform well, selling an additional 1.78 million units. Other notable releases include StarFox, which sold 1.17 million units, and Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, which sold 1.34 million units.

It’s getting harder and harder to sell video game hardware these days, and only hits help. Nintendo must step on the gas and deliver more big games next fiscal year to ensure the Switch 2 momentum continues.

With the current fiscal year’s main attraction being the Ocarina of Time remake, industry experts like Serkan Toto, CEO of Kantan Games, emphasize the need for Nintendo to release more significant titles to keep the Switch 2’s success rolling.
