World of Warcraft: Forever Review So Far – Beta Impressions

“Forever’s journey is meant to be savored, not rushed. Blizzard’s intention is clear: this iteration is about the adventure, not just reaching the endgame.”

Returning to the RPG roots of World of Warcraft has been a revelation. The streamlined mechanics of the modern game have been peeled back, revealing a richer, more engaging experience. Features like parry, block, and hit chance, along with the need to purchase skill ranks, make leveling a meaningful process again. The slower pace of progression and the absence of flying mounts for the initial 40 levels reinvigorate the sense of exploration and danger that once defined Azeroth.

Visually, Forever stands out with its new lighting and post-processing effects, surpassing even the current World of Warcraft’s aesthetic. While some areas may have excessive fog, the overall enhancements make the game world feel more alive and immersive. Players can choose between HD and SD models, catering to personal preferences, but the graphical improvements are hard to overlook.

However, I do have reservations about the “realmless” structure. This system, which Blizzard claims will benefit the game’s longevity, may undermine community building, particularly for roleplayers like myself. The division of capital cities could weaken the social fabric that roleplaying communities rely on. While I remain skeptical, I’m open to seeing how this evolves.

During the beta, I capped my progress at level 13 to avoid spoiling too much before the official release. From what I’ve experienced, Forever has successfully rekindled the magic of World of Warcraft’s early days. The world feels vast, mysterious, and full of potential. As I prepare to explore the remaining 47 levels, I am hopeful that the journey will continue to be as captivating as the first steps have been. Stay tuned for further updates as I delve deeper into this promising new chapter of Azeroth.
