“None of this makes me eager to hop onboard with whatever these companies are cooking up for next-gen.”
Valve, on the other hand, has maintained a more consumer-friendly approach. Ultimately, just hours before my purchase window closed, I decided to order the Steam Machine. It quickly won me over. Although I encountered issues with older games lacking cloud save support, newer titles like The Witcher 3 Remastered and ARC Raiders played seamlessly, enhancing my gaming experience across devices.
The Steam Machine may not surpass the power of my other consoles, but it houses my primary game library and delivers stunning visuals on my 4K TV. The Steam Controller has also dethroned my long-time favorite, the Xbox controller, as my preferred choice.
“As it stands now, hardware-wise, I might be done with Sony and Microsoft going forward.”
While the Steam Machine is a costly investment and not suitable for everyone, it perfectly fits my gaming lifestyle. My focus will remain on the Steam Machine/Deck combination for most games and the Switch 2 for Nintendo exclusives. As for the PS6, whenever it debuts, I doubt it will be a priority purchase for me.
