“As of January 1, 2027, you’ll no longer be able to play multiplayer games or access any online game modes,” stated 2K.
While it is typical for older games to eventually lose server support, 2K’s recent trend of delisting newer NBA titles has been disappointing for some fans. This approach effectively pushes players to upgrade to the latest installment, regardless of their preference for older versions. The removal of certain features and modes with each new release further complicates matters, as some legacy content becomes permanently unavailable.
For instance, the standalone All-Star Team-Up mode is no longer accessible due to the delisting of previous versions. This also means that players’ efforts in MyCareer might feel wasted, as they now come with a built-in expiration date.
“It forces players to move to the new games, regardless if they want to or not,” highlights the frustration among fans.
Despite these changes, the NBA 2K series continues to thrive, with fans consistently purchasing new editions. Cade Onder, a freelancer with IGN, covers these developments and more on Twitter @Cade_Onder.
