“We have The Shadow of the Past, which is in the scriptwriting stage,” Jackson stated confidently.

This news should comfort fans eager to revisit Middle-earth, even though the project is still in its early stages. “Shadow of the Past” is expected to explore events 14 years after Frodo’s departure, focusing on characters like Sam, Merry, and Pippin as they retrace their initial journey. Meanwhile, Sam’s daughter, Elanor, uncovers a secret that almost led to a different outcome in the War of the Ring.

In addition to “Shadow of the Past,” Jackson also provided an update on another project, “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.” Production on this film, featuring Andy Serkis, is nearing completion. Jackson mentioned that filming is almost wrapped up, with only a couple of weeks remaining. His next venture will be working on “Tintin 2,” which already has a completed script.

“The Hunt for Gollum is almost finished filming. I think there are about two weeks of shooting left,” Jackson noted, hinting at the project’s imminent progress.

While “Shadow of the Past” does not yet have a release date, “The Hunt for Gollum” is slated to premiere on December 17, 2027. Fans can look forward to more updates, especially from Stephen Colbert, who remains involved despite his show’s conclusion earlier this year.
