“To lose the Captain who defined Star Trek for my generation is absolutely devastating,” expressed one fan on the STO subreddit.

The community’s response was overwhelming, with players congregating at Earth Spacedock, the Academy, and even Qo’noS. One notable event saw about 40 to 50 Galaxy Class ships assembling outside Earth Spacedock to form an Honor Guard, showcasing the unity and respect among the player base.

“There’s something beautiful about seeing so many people come together without any prompting to show their love and respect for this incredible person,” shared another fan.

Fans are now urging Cryptic Studios, the developers of Star Trek Online, to create a permanent in-game tribute to Stewart. Suggestions include adding Jean-Luc Picard’s family vineyard, Château Picard, as a peaceful, explorable location on Earth, offering players a serene spot to gather and pay their respects. Others propose a statue of Picard at Starfleet Academy or an annual remembrance event within the game.

Cryptic Studios responded to the sad news with a poignant statement, acknowledging Stewart’s significant role in the Star Trek legacy. “In an era where no one was sure whether Star Trek HAD a future, your warmth and your sturdiness gave us hope,” the developer stated, praising Stewart’s dignified portrayal of the Enterprise’s captain.

The entertainment industry also mourned Stewart’s passing, with tributes from his Star Trek co-stars, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige, and X-Men colleagues Sir Ian McKellen and Hugh Jackman. Bethesda honored Stewart for his role in “The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion,” highlighting his broad influence beyond Star Trek.

These heartfelt tributes underscore the profound impact Patrick Stewart had on fans and colleagues alike, cementing his legacy as an iconic figure in entertainment.
