“The sudden appearance of a rating suggests Microsoft may have plans to revisit Modern Warfare 2 in the near future.”

This move echoes Activision’s recent strategy with the Black Ops series, where ports for Black Ops 1 and 2 were leaked, announced, and launched swiftly in June. These releases were met with commercial success, particularly for Black Ops 2, which quickly became one of the year’s top sellers. However, these ports faced criticism for being “low effort,” as they were largely seen as direct copies of the original games with minimal enhancements.

Moreover, multiplayer issues arose with exploiters taking advantage of the level-up system, prompting Activision to address these concerns. Pricing also drew criticism, with each port costing $40 on PlayStation 4 and 5, and DLCs priced separately at $29.99 per season pass. Discounts for PlayStation Plus users offered some relief, but similar pricing strategies might be a concern if Modern Warfare 2 is re-released.

“Many criticized the Call of Duty ports as ‘low effort,’ calling out both Black Ops games for being little more than direct rips of the original releases.”

While Black Ops 1 and 2 ports were released exclusively on PlayStation consoles, it remains uncertain which platforms might host the potential Modern Warfare 2 port. Fans will need to wait for Activision to confirm any plans regarding this classic title.

Upon its original release, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” received a high rating of 9.5/10 from IGN. For more insights, you can explore discussions about the impact of Xbox’s recent Black Ops ports or enjoy the nostalgic sounds of classic CoD lobbies through an ambience website.
